Motor stutters, shakes or won’t start

Juddering from a standstill usually means the controller cannot read the motor’s sensors (E-01 or E-11).

Likely causes

Hall sensor plug loose or wetHow to tell: The thin wires in the motor cable plug. Often after rain or washing.

Motor cable damagedHow to tell: Where the cable leaves the axle, or where the rocker arm moves it.

Step by step

Tap a step when it’s done to keep your place.

  1. Switch off and unplug the charger

    Always before touching any connector.

  2. Inspect the cable

    Follow the motor cable from the axle to its plug. Look for cuts, crushing or stretched spots, especially where it bends when the suspension moves or the handlebar turns.

  3. Open, dry and clean the connector

    Unplug it. Look for water, green corrosion or pins pushed back. Shake out water, spray contact cleaner, let it dry fully (a few minutes).

  4. Plug back firmly and secure

    Push until it clicks or seats fully. Cable-tie it so it cannot rub on the tyre or the suspension.

  5. Test

    Switch on and try the throttle gently with the wheel lifted.

Stay safe

  • IP54 means splash resistant, not waterproof. Avoid puddles and heavy rain, and never pressure-wash the scooter.

When to take it to a shop

If the code stays with clean, dry plugs and a good cable: the sensors inside the motor need replacing.
