Range is much shorter than before

Batteries lose some range with age, but big drops often have simpler causes.

Check this first

Pump tyres into range, spin both wheels by hand for rubbing, then do a normal ride and compare.

A floor pump with a gauge. Scooters like this one normally have a car-style (Schrader) valve: check yours and make sure the pump head fits it.

Any gauge that fits your valve. The gauge on a cheap pump can be off by a lot, so a separate one is worth it.

Step by step

  1. Tyres into range

    Read the sidewall, pump, check with a gauge.

  2. No drag

    Wheels must spin freely by hand.

  3. Charge fully, ride normally, note the km

    Compare like with like: same route, same mode, similar temperature.

  4. Look after the pack

    Keep it above about 10%. Charge after rides, not only when empty. Store half-charged in a dry room if parked for weeks.

Stay safe

  • Anything inside the battery pack, or a pack that is swollen, hot, smells or has been dropped hard. Stop using it and take it to a shop that works on e-scooter batteries.

When to take it to a shop

If range halved suddenly, or the battery gets hot. A shop can test the pack’s cells safely.
