Wheel wobbles or bumps once per turn

A wobble you feel at every turn of the wheel is usually a tyre not sitting evenly on the rim.

Check this first

Lift the wheel, spin it slowly and watch the line just above the rim. Then rock the wheel side to side.

A floor pump with a gauge. Scooters like this one normally have a car-style (Schrader) valve: check yours and make sure the pump head fits it.

Step by step

Tap a step when it’s done to keep your place.

  1. Check the axle nuts

    If the wheel rocks, tighten both axle nuts firmly. Loose axle nuts are dangerous: fix this before anything else.

  2. Let most of the air out

    Leave just enough to keep shape.

  3. Make the bead slippery

    Spray soapy water where the tyre meets the rim, both sides.

  4. Pump up slowly while watching the line

    Push down on the low spots of the tyre as you pump. It often pops into place. Stop at the sidewall maximum.

  5. Spin and check again

    The line should be the same height all round. If not, repeat. If it still wobbles, the tyre may be damaged.

  • Do not ride with a wobble at speed.
