Stem wobbles or clicks
A wobbly stem is the most common issue on folding scooters. Adjusting the folding clamp usually fixes it.

- Stem moves back and forth when you rock the handlebar
- Click or knock when braking
Likely causes
Hold the front brake and rock the handlebar. Watch the fold, the height collar and the steering head: which one moves?

Step by step
Tap a step when it’s done to keep your place.
- Find where it moves
Fold, height collar or steering head.
- Adjust the folding clamp
Open the clamp. Find its adjustment bolt (on the hook or the lever pivot). Tighten a quarter turn, close the clamp and test. Repeat until the play is gone but the lever still closes with firm hand pressure.
- Tighten the height collar
Snug its bolts evenly.
- Headset play is more work
If the movement is at the steering head, the headset bearings need adjusting. A shop can do it quickly.
Stay safe
- A folding clamp that pops open while riding is very dangerous. Always check it is locked before you ride.
